According to a story on engadget.com the 1/2 kilo Olympic medals for Vancouver are made in part of recycled metal from circuit boards. Nobody’s going to be hacking these badges, but if they could we suggest they say, “The IOC’s views on copyright need hacking too.”

You have to love this. The LiveScribe Pen can play a piano it draws
itself on paper. A Lego Mindstorms robot can be programmed to move
through a series of mechanical steps. Combine them and you get sweet,
sweet music, maker style.

The democratic election of Evo Morales and the MAS Party in Bolivia in
2005 is a wonderful example of maker culture in politics. The poorest
people in the country are now using consensual decision making to take
their government, and their countries resources back into their own
hands. We’ll be looking at this example of maker culture in politics
in an episode of the MakerCulture Project. This video from mxq on You
Tube gives a great overview of the situation there now.
